50^TH ANNIVERSARY OF UNICEF

Commemorative coin for the 50^th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) which was set up in 1946 during the first session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, as an emergency fund of the United Nations for children in response to the devasting consequences of the 2^nd World War, providing community services of primary health care, nutrition, basic education, and the provision of safe water, in more than 140 countries. Today it continues carrying out these tasks and constitutes an integral part of the United Nations, fulfilling a vital role in support of a better quality of life for the children of the world.

This issue consists of two coins for circulation with values of $1(one peso) and $0.50 (fifty centavos), both of similar characteristics to those currently in circulation.
