Motif on
face Presents the columns of Hercules resting on the "OCEAN SEA", the nexus between the two worlds, divided by the legend "PLVS VLTRA". Over both worlds the sun; four crowns representing the Vice-realms of Mexico, Nueva Granada, Peru and Rio de la Plata, and four stars symbolizing the General Captainships of Cuba, Guatemala, Venezuela and Chile. There is also the legend "ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS" and "1492-1992" |
Motif on reverse The reverse is common for all the participating countries, showing the nominal value "A1000", the year of minting, the legend "REPVBLICA ARGENTINA" and the National Crest surrounded by the crests, in smaller size, corresponding to the rest of the countries making up the issue. |
